in life, in death
we'll be together   Silver eyes flutter open to be greeted by the starry night and sight of a river with moonlight dancing across its surface. The scene is set askew, its strange angle explained by the grounding sensation of soft, damp earth against her side, still carrying residual warmth from the long-gone sun. Her head pounds and she lets out a groan before rubbing her head with a splayed paw.
A deep sigh before the midnight wolf rolls onto her chest and takes in her surroundings, trying to make heads or tails out of where she's found herself and how exactly she got here. All Nyx can remember of the night before was drinking and praising the Bakkhic King. It seems he possessed her and sent her on a most rapturous adventure of which she holds only the vaguest of memories. The dryness of her throat urges her to drag herself towards the water, too lethargic and sore to get up, and she takes a pause to examine her reflection. Her inky black fur is a ruffled mess and, on close inspection, she notices a couple of cuts on her nose and blood dried into the fur around her mouth and cheeks. With a paw, she delicately touches the new scabs. That explains the metallic taste in her mouth. Wasting no more time, she dips down to the water's edge. She swears, nothing could be more satisfying than that first sip — it's like the first rain after a drought, bringing back to life everything that has dried out. She can't help but start gulping down the water as though she'd spent the past three days lost in the desert, suffering under the scorching sun. Dragging herself forward until her forelimbs and chest are submerged in the cool river shallows, a reprieve from the warm summer night, she cannot get enough. |
Aurelia
As the summer wore on, so too did the heat. Aurelia sighed as she roamed the streets of Ivarness alone once again. She didn't have any luck tonight, probably because of the heat, most men were more agitated than anything these nights. She decided that was enough for her and headed for the river outside of town. It was time for a dip before heading home...
She neared the river and an unfamiliar scent greeted her. She wondered if someone else had the same idea as she had. While the river had lowered from it's usual splendor, there was at least something to dip ones toes in. That was a relief, at least. Aurelia's ears flicked and she gazed down the shallow bank, silvery eyes peering at the dark figure in the water but not quite seeing it. Moonlight danced on the water's surface and that, she did see. The glistening lights were beautiful and she felt her heart clench as they soon faded into blackness. She wondered when the lights would go away forever and she prayed, every night, that they would always stay. A breath escaped her as she turned her head and lifted her muzzle, tail swaying behind her to convey friendliness despite her agitation from being hot. "How's the water?" she asked the stranger.
