MORROWEN
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit,

How strange it was, to finally be here. Taking her education dreams into fruition, forcing her mind to expand. Against her family's incredibly out dated beliefs. Women were not just vessels to rear the next generation, no. They were as capable-if not more so-of greatness, just like males.

As the moonlight poured through the open widows and hallowed halls, Wendy allowed herself to be embraced by the tender light. It caressed and touched her dark cheeks, seeping over her navy fur, providing a sense of calm. In these quiet moments, she could truly reflect. Praise and congratulate herself on how far she had truly come. A Junior Professor. Doing what no one in her family said she could.

But did she miss them? Should she? Part of her was scared, perhaps concerned at the apathy that showed when she thought of them. They were 'naught but ghosts, fragments of voices. Nothing but whispers of the past... good. Let them stay that way!

Taking in the crisp, night air a small and genuine smile played upon delicate lips.

Yeah, she was home.

Branches arched overhead, enclosing every clearing, every crumbling building, in a shelter for the learned and giving. But even the thick trees could not keep out the moonlight. Aryth wandered through its silver streams, his russet and earthen hues glimmering in the night. Truth be told, it wasn’t strange for him to be up this late. He didn’t go to sleep until the last insects grew quiet, and he often woke with the dawn. Maybe it was a symptom of being a scholar. Either way, he was used to traipsing along in the dark by his lonesome.

And so, he was quite surprised when he turned a corner and caught sight of the female in front of him. Aryth gasped softly (he was easily startled), but quickly calmed down as her familiarity settled in. His glinting, emerald eyes drank in her raven fur before stopping at her violet gaze. Even those eyes were like the dusk come to life, the stuff of twilight and dreams. The Junior Professor smiled at his counterpart, his voice smooth and inviting as he greeted, “Awrite...Morrowen, right?” He hesitated, a sheepish smile lingering on his handsome lips. She hadn’t lived with the College her entire life like he had, but she’d put in the work and she was ready to be called a colleague. But he’d never actually had time to learn much about her. (Although that was, perhaps, an excuse.)

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit,

Birds flocked and danced within the dark skies, flickers of shadows against the stars. The moon enveloped her dark pelt, embellishing the navy, highlighting the blue that seemed to radiate from her. How amethyst eyes seemed to glow like gems within the darkness. A true reflection of the night.

It was truly peaceful to be here, basking. Simply listening to Mother nature's might. In her family's belief, it was more than nature. The fae had much more to do with creation. But now under knowledge, would Wendy still believe? Even if fact proved those beliefs wrong? Only time would tell.

Awrite...Morrowen, right?” A familiar Lowlander dialect hit her ears before her eyes settled upon the man's fiery form. Draped in gold hues and eyes of evergreen, the smile that had slowly formed on her lips widened in a friendly gesture, ignoring the slight startle she felt upon his arrival. "Oh! Hm...Yes, that's me." The awkward flush of heat burned her navy cheeks, a nervous chuckle rumbled through her maw. "And youuu're.... Arythmetik, right? I-it's nice to meet you." She had not expected another to be up so late. But... it was nice to be in the company of another, it had been a long time since she had simply... talked.

Blinking, she awkwardly shifted her weight upon her paws. "You're a Junior Professor, like me?" If she recalled correctly, he was the man that had taught Herbology a few days Prior.

She allowed him to respond, before continuing. "Hm... so what are you doing up so late?" She allowed a wry smile to take over. "Too nervous to settle?"

Oh, she was now.

Correctly remembering the woman’s name had Aryth’s tail wagging with pleasure. His ears perked forward in a friendly manner, but there was still a definite tranquility to his features. He was in his element, in his truest home, and he was calm. Still, though he wasn’t completely conscious of it, his heart did start to beat just a bit faster the longer he locked eyes with Morrowen. “You can call me Aryth, if you like.” (He would like.) “We’re not in a lesson, after all.” He remembered her coming to his class now, but the Junior Professor realized she must have been there to hone her craft. Maybe she was even studying to prepare for teaching her own lessons, just like he’d observed his mentor for ages before striking out on his own. He could only hope that she found his class helpful. With a brief nod, he confirmed that they were indeed colleagues.

When the raven-furred female asked why he was up late, Aryth’s sheepish smile widened. “Heh, well…” He glanced up at the streams of moonlight struggling to break through the canopy. His tail swished once behind him and he, too, shifted his weight awkwardly. “Not necessarily nervous, per se. Don’t get me wrong, teaching my first official class by myself was a little nerve-wracking, but I think I’ve finally gotten over it.” He paused, appearing thoughtful for a moment, before he turned his emerald gaze to her. “I...hope that was useful for your studies, by the way. But no, I just find it difficult to sleep. Too many thoughts running through my mind. What about you?”

His pelt was a shining gold star against the dark backdrop of the night. With the moon's soft glow, pigments of light creams and yellows seemed to burn upon him. A definite contrast to the inky, navy hues that wrapped around Wendy. “You can call me Aryth, if you like.” Blinking, bright eyes widened as her dark ears perked. His own seemed to swarm with evergreen delight. "Aryth it is!" She said happily, a genuine smile peaking through dark gums. "Oh, uh...Wendy! It's a shorter version of my name." She offered, shuffling awkwardly upon her black-tipped paws.

A nickname. It was rare for others to be so familiar with her.

“We’re not in a lesson, after all.” She offered a soft laugh. "Not at all... I haven't done many. If at all." Why... was she so awkward and flustered?! Stumbling, fumbling over her words like a newly born pup. It was frustrating, to say the least.

. “Heh, well…” As the conversation continued, she noted the sheepish grin that started to form upon his golden features. “Not necessarily nervous, per se. Don’t get me wrong, teaching my first official class by myself was a little nerve-wracking, but I think I’ve finally gotten over it.” She nodded in agreement, she too knew how daunting teaching was. "It seems we are in the same boat, then!" And quickly, she added. "You did great, though! You seemed at home... up there." Ah, the familiar embarrassment flowed through her cheeks, heating her body. Eek. Compliments!

“I...hope that was useful for your studies, by the way. But no, I just find it difficult to sleep. Too many thoughts running through my mind. What about you?” This was where her light expression faded and her jaw clenched. Her gaze drifted to the outside, the stars that called. "I know the feeling..." The doubt. Night always seemed to have a worse hold upon her-beckoning her mind to reel, rather than settle.

Yet she pushed those thoughts away and returned to her newly found... friend. "But yes! They were very helpful, thank you." Her smile returned, along with a simple wag of her tail.

Aryth’s eyes glimmered like gems in the night as she chirped her preferred nickname. “Wendy...I love that. I’ve never heard anything like it!” (Of course he loved unique names—maybe that’s why he chose one for himself.) There was something simply enchanting about the fellow scholar’s company. She was bright and enthusiastic—a metaphorical contrast to her shadowy, sultry appearance. It was like looking into the night sky and finding a star. Aryth had no way of knowing she might be thinking the very same thing. Then again, he didn’t presume that she was thinking about him at all. They were merely two colleagues who accidentally bumped into each other in the night.

Still, he was glad they did.

He smiled at her compliment, thinking nothing of it. He was blissfully ignorant of the pleasant tension forming between them. “Maybe we should host the next class together. Two numpties up there teaching have to be better than one, right?” The earthen male grinned, subconsciously taking a step closer. But as her expression changed, the smile was swept from his lips as well. A mite of concern gnawed at the edge of his normally smooth facade, and his ears swiveled forward. He didn’t care anymore about his lesson helping her. Something was clearly bothering her, or he’d put her off somehow without realizing it. Even as Wendy thanked him, wagging her tail, Aryth was not completely comforted.

“Hey,” he offered softly, “since we’re not tired, would you walk with me? Tell me what’s on your mind?” No harm in building a professional relationship with a (beautiful) peer, right?

“Wendy...I love that. I’ve never heard anything like it!” His statement caused dark brows to raise, amethyst eyes widened with surprise. A nervous giggle bubbled from her pale chest, catching within the moon's tender embrace. "Really? Well... i'm glad to be the first." Oh how that toothy smile grew and her dark tail wagged. How could a stranger be so kind? So welcoming? And instantly feel as if they had known each other for years?

“Maybe we should host the next class together. Two numpties up there teaching have to be better than one, right?” Together? Another warm flush, yet this time it seemed to ripple between them. It rolled down her body like the sun on a warm, summer's day. "I'd like that." Her voice was softer this time. "What could go wrong, aye?" Indeed, perhaps chaos. Embarrassment. Death. Well... maybe not the latter! Her stance seemed to mirror his own, happily wagging her tail back and forth. A new comrade. Friend? Someone, at least, she could share things with!

And yet, the mood dampened. As did her spirit. Of course her past was an ever-present shadow. A looming darkness over her mind. Tethers she had not quite cut. Ones that unfortunately, still had a hold upon her. Hey, his voice was softer. “since we’re not tired, would you walk with me? Tell me what’s on your mind?” She did not shy away like her mind screamed her to. She did not coil away from his advances. She found herself wanting to stand closer, to feel the warmth that projected from him. His palm was out stretched and all she wanted to do... was clasp it.

So she nodded. And took it. Allowing him to lead the way.

"My family," She began, after what seemed too long a moment. "They did not agree with my ambition to become a Professor."

Aryth was studious and keen, but when it came to social interactions, he had a tendency to be somewhat of a dunce. Even when he was trying his best to be polite and respectful, he’d offended more than a couple wolves in his time. So this conversation, a private moment stolen beneath the faint starlight and crisp, autumn air, was utterly refreshing. They were colleagues, mere acquaintances, but even the scholar could sense them growing closer with each passing minute. Aryth didn’t know exactly what was happening, but he enjoyed it. At the very least, he hoped he could call Wendy a friend after this.

She agreed to walk beside him, and the pair transitioned from the Arboretum’s hallowed halls to a small clearing. Grass and dried leaves crinkled softly beneath their paws as Aryth strode alongside the woman clothed in night. He waited with baited breath, his emerald eyes shimmering in the darkness as he hoped, dearly, that he hadn’t offended her by asking. But then she admitted her family’s disappointment, and Aryth was stunned. He blinked, his lips parting helplessly for a moment even as he continued to walk. “Well...whyever not?” he finally managed. It was nearly impossible for him to conceive of a world where anyone would be upset about someone wanting to study. Let alone family.

Then again, he’d never really had a family. So maybe he was missing some pertinent information.

MORROWEN
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit,

Friends was a concept rare to Wendy, though she was a sweet girl. One loving, with a kind heart; she quiet nature and passion to study often drove her away from the social events, the big crowds. Often, she would prefer the silence and solitude of herself than others. The black sheep of the family. The outcast of her community. She had always struggled to keep friends, they often migrated and moved to those with more flamboyant natures.

And yet here, she found herself oh so easily making new acquaintances. And with Aryth, it felt like they had known each other for a lifetime.

“Well...whyever not?” The bond of trust was easily forged between them, she felt no tension as to hold back her history and insecurities... it was comforting, yet slightly unsettling. Her moonlight gaze cast to her ebon' paws as the texture changed from smooth cold stone, to crisp autumnal grass. Leaves decorated the dewy blades here and there and the smell of firs and pines wafted through the air. "They believed that I should worship... the fae." She finally spoke, albeit rather timidly, cautiously her gaze found her newfound companion. "Do you know of them?" Many knew of folklore and tales, yet Morrowen's family made their lives revolve around them, forged a religion, suspended upon beliefs. It was almost blasphemous to speak such words aloud! Yet she had always known... that the life she had been born into, was not her own.

She allowed some time to pass, before continuing. "They wanted me to dance in the woods for the rest of my life," A small, bitter laugh of disbelief, mostly due to the fact she was baring all to a stranger she hardly knew! "But their lack of lore, of knowledge and thirst drove me away... I... I have always known that I was meant for more, to help others. To learn about the world! This... this is where I belong." Now only a smile remained, one joyous-she felt at least three tonnes lighter sharing such knowledge.

It was like she was finally free.

When Wendy offered her bashful explanation, Aryth had to restrain a scoff. Not aimed at her, of course. Rather, he placed no stock in fairy stories and fae-centric traditions. It felt silly, offensive to him, even, that this bright girl’s parents would shame her for wanting to hone her brain. Especially if the alternative was worshipping invisible (and cruel) little overlords. ‘Do you know of them?’ Still stifling a rude grimace, Aryth plastered a calm facade over his handsome features and merely nodded. He waited to see if she would go into more detail—only if she wanted to, of course. The shift in her gaze and the heaviness resting on her shoulders spoke of her need to vent. And then, as they walked into the embrace of night and she let her words flow, Morrowen’s joy blossomed between them.

Aryth returned her smile. “Personally, I agree with you.” The scholar’s warm, even tenor poured like smooth honey from his throat. “People who never question anything frustrate me. The purpose of life is to make new discoveries.” Aryth shrugged lightly, his tail swishing as he gazed into the fuzzy distance. “Why do some wolves blindly follow things they literally cannot see, when far more interesting possibilities are right beneath their noses?” The male glanced sidelong at his new friend briefly. “I hope I don’t sound too preachy. They are your parents, after all, I don’t want to be crass.”
