Mathias Dumont cannot be said to be particularly strong. He was painted with a different brush, one of finer strokes with a more delicate hand. He is tall and sinewy, with the tight, thin muscle that comes with wandering and is not particularly useful for fighting. This, combined with his sooty appearance, gives him the impression of smoke. The only vibrance about him comes from his eyes, which have a peculiar type of silver and purple heterochromia. They are piercing, though their oddness cannot often be fully realized unless he is up close.

Personality
Mathias is a proper gentleman as well as a wandering vampire. He speaks with refinement, yet his tastes are singularly unrefined. He is everything he presents on the surface, and yet he is nothing like that presentation at times. He is a paradoxical mishmash of civility and barbarity, patience and chaos. One would describe him as polite, charming, unassuming -- and yet one might say that everything about him demands to be noticed, pondered, contemplated. One might not say they are uncomfortable around him, but at times, one might venture to say that there is a bit of an oddness there. Very few -- if any -- know the extent of Mathias's true nature. It is a secret he prefers to keep to himself. He enjoys playing the gallant nobleman, even though the status has long abandoned his family. It is not his fault if most others are not perceptive enough to notice the danger beneath the surface.

History
The Dumont family was once an established lineage of Mainlander nobility, with the pomp and circumstance to accompany such a title. However, during Mathias' grandfather's life, the Dumont family was stripped of its title -- a curious situation, the reasons for which are hotly contested amongst the common folk and the family itself -- and was forced to find other means to survive. Mathias' father grew up during this transitional time, so he ensured that the Dumont family kept the traditional customs of nobility after Mathias and his brother, Adrian, were born. They were raised as if they had wealth and power, though they did not have as much of it as they once did.
The Dumonts found another way to survive: becoming tradesmen. However, rumors circulated quickly that this was a mere front for some more nefarious activity. Le Milieu, as they came to be known colloquially, did not deal so much in meat trading as they did in...pharmacology. Their underground specialty was elite forms of poisons that they sold for an immense profit in the black market. Using the tradesmen occupation as a front, Le Milieu quickly expanded its crime syndicate, and Mathias and Adrian were both inducted into the fold as third generation criminals.
But crime -- even the white collar variety -- comes with a price. Le Milieu's secret was at least partially uncovered, and as soldiers of the Imperial Army stormed the castle, the members fled. Mathias and Adrian have now made it into the Highlands and are fugitives of the crown, and of Le Milieu's patrons who are out of poison or profit while the dust settles. It is unclear whether the Army believes they survived the raid, or whether their own family knows they live. Mathias and Adrian do not intend to go to prison, however, so the Highlands now offer their best bet at survival.
