As much as Mirabella might hate to admit it, there isn't much in her past worth talking about. As far as she's concerned, much of it can be summarized as 'more or less of the same old, same old.' Her mother was a highlander, though relatively detached from such roots, and her father was a lowlander, the kind who wanted to keep his head down during times of turmoil. They fell in love, then created a little life for themselves in a quiet corner of the world. That eventually turned into a slightly louder life when they found themselves with three children, though Mirabella admits she was the loudest of the trio. Sure, her brother Cillian could kick up a stink, but their sister, Delphine, had a way of smoothing things over with her charms. Mirabella, on the other hand, couldn't stop herself from being a handful turbulent enough that even Delphine couldn't always come up with a story to cover for her. The siblings were close, and despite their propensity for finding or creating trouble, their parents were never anything worse than firm with them, and tender with one another. It was a good life, and one relatively protected from outside quarrels...
But that's just it, isn't it? It was a good life, sure, but it was a
boring life too. Delphine might have been content learning to tend to the family affairs and preparing for life beside a young soldier or local boy, and Cillian might have had plans to stick around and help their father, perhaps extend their family's reach just a little more to make things more comfortable... but what about Mirabella? All of that sounded downright awful at best, and dreadfully mind-numbing at worst. No, she had to escape from
that kind of dull, dreary future. She'd heard enough stories from travellers and merchants to know that there was almost certainly something
far more exciting waiting for her out there in the world, and if she couldn't find it? Well, she'd make it herself!
And so, she made some preparations, said her secret goodbyes, and left with the next band of merchants that came through their quiet corner with just her name and her dreams. Where does she go? She doesn't quite know. What will she do? Well, she doesn't know that either... But what she does know is that none of that matters, because it's the adventure that's important!
