Ara was abandoned at the doorstep of a Highlander convent, a religious sect deeply entrenched in worshipping the moon goddess and soothing the Fae. As such, Ara was awarded the bastard surname of "Snow" and raised by the acolytes and clergy that served the Children of the Moon.
As the story goes, Ara's mother died in childbirth and her father could not provide for her. Fearing that she had been cursed by the Fae, they had dropped the child off with the only group he felt could cure her. One acolyte, Sister Corinth, took a special interest in the girl. After a year of tests and study, she concluded that Ara was not cursed but favored. Why else would she be wary of the sunlit realm and the mortal world? At night, when Fae energy was at its strongest, Ara could freely go outside and -- as Sister Corinth described it -- focus the whole of her heart on the faeries.
Ara was inducted as a Child of the Moon once she turned 1 year of age. She has studied the Fae in a manner closely aligned with her convent's teachings. Seeking a more standard education, however, Ara earned a scholarship to study Highlander "mythology" at the college. Although she is disappointed by the pervasive idea that the Fae are "fake" and "figments of imagination for philosophical teachings", she is certain that the college's library will serve her well.
