Sage's Hut
Sage's hut is conical in shape, based around a singular, sturdy tree. The center of the hut is tall enough for Sage to stand on his hind legs with his body stretched up the tree, the logs are balanced on two limbs that extend from the tree. Four logs make up the main support structure for the hut, placed in a cross shape from the central tree trunk. The walls are logs and branches stacked on top of one another, braced against the four support logs. Three of the four sections of the cross shape are filled in, with the fourth section making up the entrance to the hut. Valerian's room takes up one whole section and is separated from the entrance and rest of the hut by long woven reed mats that have been hung over the support beams. The section directly opposite the entrance quarter is Sage's workshop and store room. The floor here is tamped down, and a woven reed mat rests directly in the center of the space. Against the wall is a pile of empty shells and neatly organised piles of herbs and various tools. Against the trunk of the central tree, hung on woven ropes from the snapped lower limbs of the tree hang bunches of herbs, set aside for drying. The quarter to the left of the entrance is Sage's sleeping area. Another reed mat adorns the floor, and a small pile of half finished mats lay to the side, waiting to be completed. When you enter the hut, the smell of thyme and mint is overwhelming. As well-constructed as the hut is, occasionally a log will fall from the walls and need to be replaced, and rain and snow find their way through the gaps to dampen the soil below. To the East of the hut is an open field, dotted with seven vaguely square shaped garden plots, bordered by rough logs. A myriad of plants can be found here, most of which are medicinal herbs. Just beyond the gardens runs a small creek, the sound of the water running over the pebbles can be faintly heard from inside the hut. |
