The knight wandered back through the trees, marveling at the color of the wood surrounding him. Edric wondered if he would run into his family again, as this had been the last place he had seen Rafiel and Lilith. While he would never let it show, he wanted to see them. He missed them badly, Lilith especially. Her smile had always warmed his heart, even on the coldest winter morning. The weak morning sun filtered through the leaves above, casting a golden pattern on the ground beneath his feet. It was cool that morning, but the freshness only lifted the Zyphear's mood, he smiled softly, breathing in deeply through his nose relishing the scent of fresh grass that permeated the air. His peace would not last long. Soon, the sound of panicked voices filled the air, causing the man to pause, his ears twitching anxiously in an attempt to find the source of the sound. His eyes fell on a tree, recently fallen by the looks of it. Approaching the fallen tree, Edric heard the voices again, calling for help from beneath the heavy redwood. "Hello?" He called out, pushing his snout under the tree until he found the entrance to their den. "I will do what I can to get you out. Hold tight." He called, bracing his shoulder against the fallen tree, Edric grunted, putting all of his weight against the tree but it was no good. Time and time again, he shoved against the redwood, straining until he screamed in exasperation, the desperate sobs from inside the den only furthering his frustration. The knight glanced around at the empty woods, stamping his foot. @Argent art & code by bean |
It was rare that the ex-captain went anywhere to enjoy the sights. The redwoods were normally too far out of his way for him to consider venturing through them, but retirement left him with nothing but time. He had no commitments keeping him from spending his days away from home. There were times when Argent was glad of the freedoms, times when he didn't mourn his military career, rare as they were. It took being present in the moment to separate himself from his past and to just enjoy the sunshine on his fur. The dull ache in his ribs was the hand on his shoulder that shook him from his daydream. Peace was a privilege that Argent could rarely indulge. |
