t felt strange to visit the redwood under the pretense of revelry. For nearly a year now, Nassar had been lost under the veil of maple leaves and tawny nettles for a singular purpose—to pay respects to her fallen husband. To say all manner of things other than goodbye. At the start of autumn, all she could do was hold back tears while curled at the foot of his grave. As of late, she had taken to more cordial conversation. It seemed right to keep him abreast of the life he had left behind.

Now as she glanced from left to right, she saw wolves lining the trees with food and powdered pigment. Young pups, ones soon to be weaned, rushed between her paws and through her legs chasing a sparrow. Young adults swarmed in clusters, twittering over which handsome young man or lady had caught their fancy now that they were introduced to high society.

A gray ear flicked as she carried on, more neutral in disposition than anything else.

One event caught her attention, however. A brawl. Her brow lifted as she saw Sethos and Xandria lined up to participate. Alas, both were bested in the first round. Tsk. A shame, but this was supposed to be a day of fun. As the festivities wrapped up and a woman was declared the victor, Nassar caught sight of one familiar face. A woman that had come up to her during the ball. They had traded a few words, nothing remarkable.

Nonetheless, Nassar waited for Nyx to leave before offering a comment. "You did well against a wolf that large," she glanced back at the dark male that had been Nyx's partner in the second round. "You'd think they'd separate by weight class for a competition like this." Xandria, too, had been left trying to pin a brick wall. It was unsportsman really.
